The Best Ann Arbor Parks to Visit This Summer

Looking for spots to walk and bike on sunny days?

Or a great place to have a picnic with your family?

Ann Arbor has plenty of options! Of over 100 parks and recreation areas, here are a few of our favorites:

GALLUP PARK

An Ann Arbor classic, Gallup Park is 69 acres of fun! With multiple scenic trails, Gallup is perfect for walking, biking, and running. Right on the Huron River, you can bring your own canoes, kayak, and tubes to float on the river. If you don’t own any of those, Gallup has canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals! Quench your thirst or grab a snack at the concession stand. After a picnic, you can relax while the kids play on the playgrounds or explore the park’s small islands and bridges. Gallup Park is open from 6 am to midnight, so you can go for early or late-night walks. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.

HUDSON MILLS METROPARK

Technically in neighboring Dexter, this 1,549-acre park is only 20 minutes away from downtown Ann Arbor. If you love sports, Hudson Mills is for you! There is a golf course, a disc golf course, soccer fields, basketball courts, volleyball nets, and baseball diamonds. Also on the Huron River, you can kayak, canoe, and tube for miles. Hudson Mills is great for kids with its playgrounds and activity center. The park is open from 7 am to 10 pm and a day pass is $10. Leashed dogs and other pets are allowed.

NICHOLS ARBORETUM

Called the Arb, Nichols Arboretum has incorporated native and exotic plants into the landscape since its creation in 1907. The Arb has 3.5 miles of trails to walk with views of seasonal gardens, such as the peony garden, the centennial shrub collection which contains hydrangeas, old cornelian cherries, native shadblow, and more. Leashed dogs are allowed but no bikes are allowed on the trails.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

Sunny days should be spent at Veterans Memorial Park! The park is 37 acres, has 5 baseball fields, a pool, a skatepark, a playground, and tennis courts. Hold your next cookout here with their grills and picnic tables. Along their waking paths are rain gardens with beautiful native plants. The park is open from 6 am to midnight and leashed dogs are allowed.
