University of Michigan Museum of Natural History

Feel like you’re exploring the world of Jurassic Park when visiting the University of Michigan’s Museum of Natural History. Public tours with viewings of larger-than-life fossils, interactive science labs, demonstrations that will have you viewing the world in a new way, and a planetarium will take you out of this world! Admission for individuals and families is free! September-April hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm.

University of Michigan Museum of Art

Be transported to a world of art and culture when visiting the University of Michigan Museum of Art! With rotating speakers and exhibits, every visit will be a new experience. With African, Asian, modern and contemporary art, photography, western art, and outdoor sculptures, there’s something for everybody.

The Hands-On Museum

Looking for a cool place that’s fun for the whole family? The Hands-On Museum is a great way to get together and interact with educational activities! The Museum has a tornado machine, rock walls, all sorts of simple machines to tinker with, and more exhibits that will inspire your youngest generation of scientists, engineers and artists!

Kelsey Museum of Archaeology

Because of free admission, it’s hard to think of a reason not to visit the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology! Drop-in tours on weekends mean you can walk through history at your leisure! The Kelsey Museum is home to more than 100,000 artifacts ranging from prehistoric to the medieval eras! Exhibits include: busts, coins, pottery, textiles and more.

Michigan Firehouse Museum

Walking through the restored firehouse, visitors can view fire engine steamers with horses ready to put out a fire! The Michigan Firehouse Museum offers 25 changing exhibits of antique fire trucks and rigs, historic artifacts, and the largest collection of fire truck bells in the country! The Firehouse is welcoming visitors Thursday-Sunday 12pm-4pm and for children 4 and under admission is free!

Ypsilanti Historical Society

The Ypsilanti Historical Society is housed in a 19th century Ypsilanti home, spanning two floors and an archive. Feel like a guest traveling back in time as you view decades of Ypsilanti history under one roof! Museum admissions, tours, and archive services are free and provided by staff who look forward to being a part of your historical journey! Public hours are Tuesday-Sunday 2pm-5pm.
